EYE CARE SERVICES
Dr. Yeh’s office utilizes only the most advanced technologies to derive your glasses and contact lens prescriptions and to diagnose and treat your eye conditions. He and his associates provide the following services to both adults and children with an emphasis on the most common eye conditions listed below.
Comprehensive Eye Exams
The annual eye exam provides much more than a prescription for your glasses or contacts. During this yearly evaluation, we check the intraocular pressure and assess the optic nerve as part of the recommended screening for glaucoma. We dilate the pupils to thoroughly check for cataracts and retinal conditions such as age-related macular degeneration. Our retinal imaging camera assesses the optic nerve and the surrounding inner lining of the eye, allowing us to check for ocular manifestations of systemic conditions such as diabetes and hypertension. Among other diagnostic tests, we also screen for color deficiencies, check depth perception, and assess the visual field.
Refractive Surgery/LASIK and ASA
For those interested in laser vision correction, we provide the pre-operative evaluation as well as the post-operative follow-up care. We co-manage with some of the most experienced refractive surgeons in the area and can help you realize your LASIK or ASA goals. Together, we will help you determine whether you are a good candidate for refractive surgery and then provide you with ongoing eye care to help you maintain your best vision and ocular health.
Cataracts
A cataract is a clouding of the natural crystalline lens. This prevents light from focusing clearly on the retina, causing blurry vision. Cataracts are generally thought to be a natural part of the aging process, but they can also be associated with certain medical conditions such as diabetes, certain medications such as corticosteroids, or result from trauma to the eye. Cataract symptoms become worse over time and can cause significant vision loss. As such, cataracts are the leading cause of blindness in the world.

The treatment for cataracts is cataract removal and lens implants. As the most common surgery in the US, it is highly safe and effective. This out-patient procedure is performed on more than 3 million Americans each year. If your vision is diminished due to cataracts, we will refer you to a cataract surgeon for cataract removal and lens implants.
Glaucoma
Glaucoma refers to a group of eye diseases with the common feature of optic nerve damage. While there is no established cause, certain individuals are at a greater risk for developing the condition — including those with a family history of glaucoma; those with diabetes or past eye trauma; people within certain ethnic groups, including Asians, African-Americans, Hispanics, and Scandinavians; those taking corticosteroids; and anyone over the age of 40.

Glaucoma is the second leading cause of blindness in the US and the world. Though glaucoma is usually associated with increased eye pressure, it can develop with normal eye pressure as well. Approximately half the cases of glaucoma in the US go undetected because it often develops without pain or warning. Therefore, a comprehensive eye exam is recommended on a yearly basis for the early detection and treatment of glaucoma

Our office is equipped with an OCT (Optical Coherence Tomography). This instrument utilizes laser scanning capabilities to obtain cross-sectional images of the back of the eye. This sensitive feature aids in the diagnosis and management of glaucoma as well as various conditions of the macula. Along with our retinal imaging camera, automated visual field machine, and pachymeter, we are able to successfully screen, treat and manage glaucoma.
Age-Related Macular Degeneration
The macula is the part of the retina near the back of the eye that is responsible for the clearest and sharpest images. Macular Degeneration refers to a progressive loss of vision caused by the deterioration of the macula. There are several types of Macular Degeneration. Age-Related Macular Degeneration refers to the kind associated with advanced age and is the third leading cause of vision loss in the US. Symptoms of macular degeneration include loss of color vision, difficulty seeing objects clearly, distorted or blurry central vision, and darkened or empty spots near the center of the visual field. There are two types of Age-Related Macular Degeneration: wet and dry. Treatment options include nutraceuticals, lasers, and injections.

PRESBYOPIA
Presbyopia is a common condition that generally affects men and women around the age of 40. It results in blurry near vision with patients having a difficult time focusing for reading, computer work, and other close-up activities. Presbyopia is due to the fact that over time, the crystalline lens loses its ability to “accommodate,” or change focus. Presbyopia tends to be progressive and is simply a natural part of the aging process.

COMPUTER VISION SYNDROME
Computer Vision Syndrome (CVS) commonly results from the daily demands of life and work at the computer. If you spend more than three hours a day on a computer, you are one of the 90% of the people who suffer from CVS. Symptoms include decreased productivity, double vision, headaches, physical fatigue, brow twitching, irritated eyes, and dry eyes.
During your exam, we will evaluate your work conditions and lifestyle to individualize recommendations to reduce your risk and prescribe a treatment plan for your symptoms.
dry eye syndrome
Dry eye syndrome is an increasingly common condition with numerous causes. During your eye exam, we will determine the cause(s) of your dry eyes, whether it is due to hormonal changes such as menopause, medical conditions such as allergies, medications such as anti-histamines, a multitude of environmental factors, or improper contact lens wear or care. Then, based on your signs, symptoms, and needs, we offer a vast array of treatment options including artificial tears, Restasis, Freshkote, nutraceuticals, punctual plugs, lacriserts, and more.
CHILDREN's vision
Healthy vision is more than the ability to read the board at school or the vision chart. Many vision problems manifest indirectly and result in problems such as poor hand-eye coordination, lack of interest in reading or other near-point activities, headaches, eyestrain, a short attention span, and suboptimal performance in school. For early detection and treatment, it is recommended that school-aged children have their eyes examined before the first grade and then every 2 years thereafter or as recommended by their doctor.
diabetes
Diabetic retinopathy is a complication of diabetes that affects the retina. It causes blurry vision, double vision, blind spots, and floaters. When the blood vessels in the retina are weakened, they can leak, swell or bleed, causing vision loss. With early intervention and treatment, diabetic retinopathy can be controlled. Therefore it is imperative for patients with diabetes to have a dilated eye exam at least once a year.
